Funerals

A Catholic funeral, like all funerals, is a time of sadness and mourning. However, our Catholic faith teaches us that there is joy in the belief that a funeral represents the passing of the beloved into eternal life with Jesus Christ, and that gives us cause to celebrate. Here at St. John the Evangelist Church our goal is to make the funeral planning process as easy as possible. The funeral liturgy should reflect the life of our loved one and should offer consolation and hope to those of us left behind.

Because of strong bond in faith we believe that those who have died continue to be connected with us, concerned about us as we are about them. This leads us in faith to believe that they, too, can intercede with God for us, just as we intercede for them. This mutual faith bonding beyond death is what we mean by the communion of saints.

Funeral arrangements begin with a meeting with your funeral director. The parish is contacted by the funeral director and the time for the funeral Mass or memorial Mass will be set. Then the family of the deceased will be contacted by our Pastoral Minister and an appointment will be set to plan the funeral or memorial Mass.

Donations and Bequests

In their Last Will and testament, people remember those who are close to them in life. Certainly the Family of St. John the Evangelist Church has meant a great deal to most of its parishioners. Would you kindly remember St. John the Evangelist Church in your will?

Also, on the occasion of one’s death, family and friends may wish to make a financial donation to St. John the Evangelist Church in memory of the deceased. Please consider that and rest assured that the family will be notified.
